Many IP headends can convert supported satellite channel sources into network streams, enabling distribution across suitable hotel LAN infrastructure
Satellite Reception to IP Streaming
The headend receives the required transponders and outputs supported channel streams to the data network. Capacity is constrained by inputs, output bitrate, programme selections and product capabilities
Multicast and IGMP
Multicast is commonly used for distributing linear channels to multiple viewers without generating a separate identical stream for each. Switches must be correctly configured for IGMP snooping, querier behaviour and relevant VLAN boundaries
Calculating Network Capacity
Assess the bitrate of simultaneously distributed channels and the routes they take between switches, not simply the number of rooms. A hotel IPTV design must also account for reliability, guest Wi-Fi traffic and uplink bottlenecks
Does IPTV Need a Dedicated Server?
Some IP headends stream channels directly without an additional distribution server. Interactive guest menus, VOD, welcome screens or PMS integration may still require separate software and platform infrastructure
