Hospitality Television from the Headend to the Guest Room
Maharah supports hotels, resorts and serviced properties with reception, processing and distribution solutions for television channels, including IPTV over managed IP networks and DVB-C or SMATV over suitable coaxial infrastructure
We begin with an assessment of room counts, floor layouts, channel sources, existing televisions, networking and the guest experience the property needs
Core Hotel Television Systems
Hotel IPTV Distribution
IPTV can distribute compatible broadcast channels through managed LAN infrastructure. Multicast planning, IGMP operation, VLANs, uplink capacity and suitable TVs or set-top boxes should all be reviewed in the design
Satellite and Broadcast Headend Equipment
Headend equipment receives approved sources such as DVB-S/S2, terrestrial broadcast or supported local AV feeds, and processes output for IP, DVB-C or other compatible formats, according to hardware capabilities and licensing
SMATV, MATV and DVB-C (QAM)
Coaxial distribution can remain a practical option for hotels with usable RF infrastructure and televisions with compatible tuners. The final system must be assessed for signal levels, distribution quality and channel requirements
Hospitality TV and Guest Experience
Supported hospitality televisions and middleware may provide channel management, welcome screens, hotel information or interactive services. These capabilities depend on the specific device and platform rather than the fact that channels are carried over IP
PMS Integration
Integration with hotel property management systems, including supported third-party PMS solutions, requires official APIs, licences, security permissions and technical compatibility. It should be verified before committing to guest-personalisation features
IPTV Versus SMATV: Selecting the Right Infrastructure
The decision depends on the quality of current LAN and coaxial infrastructure, screen compatibility, room counts, expansion requirements and whether the project needs standard television channels or richer interactive guest services
Project Workflow
Our team can review the property layout and existing systems, define the headend and distribution design, coordinate installation, configure supported equipment and test representative guest rooms before rollout
Frequently Asked Questions
Can IPTV work without a separate streaming server?
Some headend products can stream compatible linear channels directly to the network without a dedicated distribution server. That does not automatically include middleware, interactive services or PMS integration
Can existing hotel televisions be reused?
Potentially, depending on the model, its tuner or IPTV capabilities, and the required hospitality functions. A pilot room should be tested first
What about encrypted channels?
Commercial hotel distribution must respect authorised subscriptions, applicable licences and the content owner’s rights. Technical reception alone does not grant redistribution rights
